Eli Lilly To Pay Millions After 'Deceptive' Marketing Practices

06/18/2009 - Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly was forced to pay more than $1.7 million to Nebraska on allegations that it improperly marketed an antipsychotic drug.
Nebraska was one of 35 states involved in a $1.4 billion settlement involving the drug Zyprexa.
The settlement alleged that Eli Lilly used deceptive practices when marketing Zypexa for off-label uses, including nausea and gambling addiction.
According to the state attorney general, the company caused health care providers to prescribe Zyprexa, the brand name for the prescription drug olanzapine, to children and teens in unapproved dosages.
The Food and Drug Administration approved Zyprexa for the treatment of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Physicians are able to prescribe the drug for off-label uses, but Eli Lilly is prohibited by law from marketing the drug for such uses.
Zyprexa has been associated with several dangerous symptoms, including a risk of weight gain, hyperglycemia and diabetes.
If you or a loved one have experienced Zyprexa side effects you may be entitled to compensation. Contact the Zyprexa attorneys of Ennis & Ennis today for a free confidential case evaluation.
